Instant and reliable hot water from any water source at the flick of the switch, the Joolca Hottap Outing features the FLOTAP6 pump for drawing water from a creek or lake. Powered by 12V DC, an LPG gas bottle and a couple of D Cell batteries, user-friendly colour coded snap on hoses make for easy set-up as they are compatible with standard domestic, caravan and camper trailer fittings. It also comes complete with all cables required for connection to a 12V power source, so you won't need costly plumbers or electricians.
With an impressive flow rate of up to 6 litres per minute, the Hottap Outing delivers a luxurious shower in the outdoors. The pump self-primes to a height of up to 1.8m from the source, and the whole unit has been designed for portability, or as a permanent mount to your 4WD or trailer... even the pump features solid rubber mounts! There's no flimsy parts or fancy technology, the Hottap has been made with just one moving part, which Joolca tested to 15,000 cycles - that's 41 years of daily showers!
The one turn operation shower head has three spray patterns, a temperature cut-out safety feature prevents scalds and a backlit LCD monitor displays battery status (which lasts for months by the way) and water temperature. So, if your camping or glamping lifestyle includes the use of an LPG gas bottle, then the Joolca Hottap Outing will fit seamlessly into your camp or caravan set-up.
Range of flow adjustment is good for either comfort or when you need to conserve water. The pump is quiet enough and can leave it connected when not using it. Heat is more than enough - got it to 60°C on lowest flow and highest flame settings. Gas usage was quite efficient. What could be better is the suction filter needs some weight as it doesn't sit on the bottom. When packing up it leaks water from hoses and the system itself so having permanently connected caps would be an improvement so that it doesn't have to be packed separately to other gear that can't get wet. Also water flow and flame adjustments are difficult to get right especially with kids - they like it on the cooler side and we like it warmer and adjusting between two is a lot and back and forth outside the shower tent. Overall you probably won't get a better quality unit and I'm happy with the purchase.
The Joolca hottap is amazing. Easy to setup and instant hot water. Family loves it. It’s so refreshing when camping to wash off at the end of the day.
Worth every cent. Combined with the Joolca ensuite tent this has made camping soooooo much more enjoyable. You can't put a price on the convenience this offers with two small children (ours are aged 4 & 1)To have a toilet & shower located right behind our camper trailer meant no waiting in queues at the amenities block, i could shower them both while my husband cooked dinner. To not have to walk MULTIPLE times to the toilet block is fantastic. Plus a hot shower with all our bits & pieces already in there is great. Just love it.
crackerjack made the missus very happy to stay in one spot for more than a night
This is the best camping shower ever invented, does everything it promises . Makes The World a happy place in the middle of nowhere...Refreshing to find a product that actually stays true to its promise.
Love it love it love it !!! Great water pressure and so so easy to set up. It makes camping a bit more glam-ping lol. Thanks snowy's
Hi, can you attach a standard shower filter to the unit? Is it the same thread as a standard shower connection? Would need it to filter town water from chlorine etc.
The Joolca Hottap Outing Portable Water Heater uses garden hose type fittings to attach the shower head hose. If you wanted to add a filter in, you'd want to look at something that can run in line with a garden hose.
If camped on the banks of salt water can the unit be used to provide showers using salt water?
We definitely wouldn't recommend using salt water with your Joolca Hottap Outing Portable Water Heater. The salt water would cause corrosion over time and would severely shorten the lifetime of your unit.
how close to the water source do you have to be and likewise how long are the power leads for the pump thank you.
The important thing to remember here is that the pump needs to be close to the water source, it needs to push water rather than pull it. The 12V cable length is 7 metres, and the hoses that come with the Hottap Outing are 1.5m from the water source to pump, then 2 metres from the pump to the unit.
If you add the Hottap Outback Plumbing kit to your set up, the hose length is extended to 1.5m from the water source to 12V pump, then 20 metres from the pump to the hot water unit. Your 12V power source would then need to be closer to the pump than the water heater itself.
So, to summarise, your 12V power needs to be within 7 metres of the 12V pump, and with the addition of the Outback Plumbing Kit, the hot water unit can be a little over 20 metres from the water source.
I hope this makes sense.
Hi guys, I have a Joolca hottap water heater and shower unit on order. I want to use it for bush camping and won't be close to my car- Can I still use the pump or does it have to be connected to car battery?
You do need to have your Joolca Hottap Outing Portable Water Heating connected to 12V power, yes. The cable is 7m long so you can still use it whilst some distance from the car.
Any of the larger portable power packs we sell will do the job for you quite comfortably unless you're going to be away for a super long time. If you were overly worried, you could always pair the battery pack up with a solar panel.
No need to apologise at all! You'll need a battery with the standard cigarette lighter type fitting that you usually have in your car. The pump draws 5.8Ah of power, so I'll convert that to running time for a few different options for you. The Goal Zero Yeti 400 Portable Power Station has a 33Ah battery, so should last around 5 hours. The Dometic CoolPower RAPS44 Battery Pack & the Roman Portable Power Pack 44Ah both have 44Ah batteries, so should last between 6-7 hours. The Goal Zero Yeti 150 Portable Power Station has 14Ah so should give you about 2 hours of running time. These are all estimates obviously, so might last a little less than predicted but hopefully they help point you in the right direction.
How much does the unit weigh and can it be fixed to the internal wall of an unlined flat pack aluminium shed?
The Joolca Hottap Outing Portable Water Heater weighs 4.3kg. As for fixing it to the wall of your shed, there are brackets on the top and bottom of the unit that you can use bolts or screws to attach it to the wall of your shed.
