The 23Zero Alaska Black 1400 Sleeping Bag has a water-resistant polycotton shell and a double size making ideal for the touring couple.
Don't let its tough exterior fool you though, inside is a 100% cotton flannel liner and dual layers of insulation for a cosy sleep in any environment. Zippers feature down each side and along the foot section so you can open the bag all the way or just use the zips to manage warmth retention and ventilation.
The features don't stop there though, inside is a storage pocket so you can keep valuables safe and the bag comes complete with two flannel-lined pillows. The Alaska Black 1400 is an excellent companion to a double swag or rooftop tent.
Hi, Do each of the side zippers open from the bottom and the top (meaning that there is a twin zipper on each side)? Thanks
Rach - Melton, VIC (6 months ago)
G'day Rach,
Yes the Alaska Black Sleeping Bags have twin zippers on each side of the bag so you can open them from the top and bottom.

Leave in RTT?1 answer
Hi. Just wondering if this could feasibly be left inside the 23Zero Dakota 1400? I.e. during pack up and storage the RTT could still close properly?
Andrew - Scarborough, WA(3 years ago)
G'day Andrew,
From 23Zero directly they state: How much bedding can I store inside? - 23 zero rooftop tents were designed to allow sheets to be left on and a thin blanket or sleeping bag left inside. -If the side straps do not touch or you need to sit on the tent to get it to close then you will cause permanent damage to your tent and shorten the life of your cover zipper. ( the zipper tab will be the first to break) -Memory foam toppers will NOT allow the tent to fold correctly and will cause permanent and irreparable damage.
So, we haven't tried it personally, but as long as there's no obvious stress to the tent when packed up, you'll be ok!

Roll up in Dual Swag 1400mm?1 answer
Could this roll up and fit in the 23Zero Dual Swag 1400mm bag? Thanks
Jordan - Leichhardt, NSW(3 years ago)
G'day Jordan,
Yes, the 23Zero Swag bags are fairly generous, so as long as you get a good tight start on your swag roll, you should be able to fit the swag back in the bag with the sleeping bag rolled up inside.

Carry bag1 answer
I note from other reviews that the carry bag that comes with this sleeping bag isn’t great. What alternative carry bag do you sell that would comfortably fit this sleeping bag?
Beverley - Wallagoot, NSW(4 years ago)
G'day Beverly,
We have had mixed reports on the carry bag for these sleeping bags. The Oztrail Canvas Duffle Bags are a good alternate option, the Large size will give you plenty of space for the bag and a pillow or two.

How to dry in wet weather?1 answer
We have sweated out our double sleeping bag, it's damp & smelly now. Rain has been torrential for 5 days straight & will be raining solid for another week! If I find a laundromat to wash it, can I put in dryer at all? I once shrank a wool doona so don't want to wreck this! Help!
M - Port Macquarie (4 years ago)
G'day M,
The washing instructions can be downloaded on the product page in the details and specs section. They specifically state to air drip dry only, so we'd recommend sticking to that, as you might end up with a funny size/shaped sleeping bag if you tried putting it in the dryer.

Can you dry clean this sleeping bag1 answer
Dry cleaning ok for this sleeping bag
Brent - Southport(4 years ago)
G'day Brent,
I've double-checked the washing instructions on these, and Dry Cleaning isn't recommended. 23Zero recommend washing with a mild detergent on the cold gentle cycle of a commercial size front loader, then air drying.

How's the fill material secured inside the bag1 answer
Can you please let me know if this sleeping bag or the equivalent Darche has a secure way to ensure the fill material is not moving around i.e. maybe criss-cross sewing pattern as you use the bag?
Romy - LARA(4 years ago)
G'day Romy,
There are no sewn-through seams in the bag to keep the fill material in place, however, the nature of the hollow fibres should keep it in place.

How does it compare to Darche1 answer
Hi Guys Looking at a double sleeping bag and wondering how this one compares to the Darche Cold Mountain Canvas. Can it be unzipped on both sides. Cheers
Rob - Perth WA(5 years ago)
G'day Rob,
To be honest they look pretty similar and have similar features. They both have 8Oz canvas, and zippers on both sides, the Alaska is slightly larger than the Cold Mountain and will be slightly warmer.

Does it completely unzip?1 answer
I'm looking for a double sleeping bag which will unzip to make two separate doonas. Thank you.
Ros - 3960(5 years ago)
G'day Ros,
I've just tried this out for you and I can confirm that you can completely unzip the top and bottom sections to make two separate 1400mm wide doonas. One side will have the hooded section, however, it is possible to do as you've suggested.

Removable Layers?1 answer
Does this sleeping bad have a removable layer, e.g. the flannelette layer, to make it more of an all rounder sleeping bag, rather than just for winter nights, similar to that of the adventure king's sleeping bags.
Zach - Berwick(5 years ago)
G'day Zach,
The Alaska Black 1400 is an all in one sleeping bag, so doesnt have any removable layers. If you're wanting an option with abit more versatility you could look at the Coleman Pilbara C-5. 2 of those zipped together will make a double sleeping bag with a removable liner. Hope that helps.
